Wyoming is the least populated state in the US and has the most severe physician-to-population shortage. Nearly the entire state is HPSA-designated. Major markets are Casper (Wyoming Medical Center), Cheyenne (Cheyenne Regional, UCHealth Wyoming), and Laramie (Ivinson Memorial). Wyoming is an IMLC member with a $300 license fee.

Major health system credentialing (WY)

  • Wyoming Medical Center (Casper): 90–120 days. Largest hospital in WY; Level II trauma.
  • UCHealth Wyoming (Cheyenne / Laramie): 90–120 days; provides subspecialty referral capabilities to Colorado.
  • Cheyenne Regional Medical Center: 90–120 days regional.
  • Banner Health Wyoming (Cody): 75–90 days small community.

What we see at Ava Health

Wyoming pays some of the highest physician locum rates in the country for primary care, EM, and OB/GYN. Jackson Hole is a premium market. Energy industry (Casper, Gillette) drives EM demand. $300 fee and IMLC membership make WY cost-effective for Mountain West locum portfolios.
