New Mexico is one of the most underserved physician markets in the US by physician-to-population ratio. The Albuquerque metro houses UNM Health, Presbyterian, and Lovelace; rural New Mexico has significant HPSA designations. New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners is an IMLC member.

Major health system credentialing (NM)

• UNM Health Sciences Center (Albuquerque): 120–150 days academic. University of New Mexico's academic medical center — Level I trauma, NCI cancer center, children's hospital, and the only academic transplant program in NM.
• Presbyterian Healthcare Services (Albuquerque / statewide): 90–120 days large regional system. Most HMO-integrated health system in NM.
• Lovelace Health System (Albuquerque): 90–120 days community credentialing.
• Christus St. Vincent (Santa Fe): 75–105 days regional Catholic system.
• Gila Regional Medical Center / Upper Sonoran Health (Silver City): 75–90 days rural community — significant HPSA premium compensation.
• IHS Navajo Area (Gallup / Shiprock): Federal IHS positions with distinct credentialing through federal system.

New Mexico-specific requirements

• NM PDMP: Mandatory enrollment for Schedule II–V prescribers
• CME: No state-mandated CME for NM physician license
