Steps at a glance
Complete CRNA program and obtain NBCRNA certification
Graduate from a COA-accredited nurse anesthesia program and pass the NBCRNA NCE. New Jersey requires current CRNA national certification for APRN-CRNA licensure.
Obtain New Jersey RN license
New Jersey is NOT a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). All CRNAs practicing in New Jersey must hold a New Jersey-issued RN license. Apply by endorsement through the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs. The endorsement process typically takes 6-10 weeks.
Submit NJ Division of Consumer Affairs APRN application
After receiving your NJ RN license, apply for the APRN-CNP credential through the NJ DCA online portal. Submit CRNA certification, NJ RN verification, anesthesia program documentation, and the $130 application fee.
Practice under collaborative arrangement
New Jersey requires CRNAs to practice under a collaborative arrangement with a New Jersey-licensed physician. ACT settings satisfy this through anesthesiologist direction. Independent CRNA positions require a written collaborative practice agreement on file.
