New Jersey CRNA License 2026: APRN Requirements, Practice Model, Salary
New Jersey CRNAs are licensed as APRNs by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. New Jersey is not an NLC compact member — a New Jersey RN license by endorsement is required before applying for APRN-CRNA credentials, adding 6–10 weeks to the total timeline. New Jersey is a reduced practice state — a collaborative practice agreement with a New Jersey-licensed physician is required. New Jersey CRNA salaries are among the highest in the nation, driven by the New York City metro market's gravity and the state's high cost of living.
Practice Model
- Collaborative practice agreement with NJ-licensed physician required
- New Jersey has NOT opted out of federal Medicare CRNA supervision requirement
- ACT model: RWJBarnabas flagship facilities, Hackensack University Medical Center, Morristown Medical Center
- CRNA-independent (with CPA): South Jersey facilities, community hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers
- Proximity to NYC: North NJ (Bergen, Hudson, Essex counties) compensates at near-NYC levels
Application Requirements
- New Jersey RN license (NJ-issued; NLC compact licenses not valid)
- Current NBCRNA certification
- Official nurse anesthesia program documentation
- Completed NJ DCA online application + $130 fee
- Criminal background check via NJ State Police
Processing Timeline
Plan 10–14 weeks total for out-of-state CRNAs: 6–10 weeks for NJ RN endorsement + 4–6 weeks for APRN-CRNA credentialing. Start the RN endorsement immediately upon accepting a position. Temporary authorization to practice is not routinely available.
