How to Get a CRNA License in New York (2026)
New York is the third-largest CRNA market in the country and the slowest-licensing in the Northeast. New York is NOT in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so the underlying RN license must be obtained separately by endorsement before the CRNA process can begin. Total endorsement timeline: 12-16 weeks (RN + CRNA combined).

NY scope of practice
New York CRNAs practice under "collaborative agreement" with a physician (anesthesiologist, surgeon, dentist, podiatrist, or osteopathic physician) per Article 139 of the NYS Education Law. Federal Medicare opt-out: NY has not opted out, so CRNAs in Medicare-billing facilities require a supervising MD/DO for billing purposes.
Bottom line
NY CRNA endorsement is slow (12-16 weeks total), no compact, and slightly below California for top-tier comp but with much lower cost-of-living outside NYC. For Westchester / Long Island / upstate roles, comp + COL ratio is excellent.
