Georgia RN License 2026 — BON Endorsement, eLicense & Timeline

Georgia is one of the Southeast's fastest-growing healthcare markets, driven by Atlanta metro expansion and rural hospital demand across the state. Major systems including Emory Healthcare, Northside Hospital, WellStar Health, Piedmont Healthcare, Grady Health, and Augusta University Medical Center operate statewide. The Georgia Board of Nursing, part of the Georgia Secretary of State's Professional Licensing Board Division, administers RN licensure through the eLicense portal at sos.ga.gov.

Is Georgia an NLC compact state?

Yes. Georgia is a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) member. Georgia-licensed RNs with Georgia as their primary state of residence hold multistate licenses valid in all other NLC compact states. Nurses licensed in other compact states who maintain residency there may work in Georgia under their home-state compact privilege without a separate Georgia endorsement.

Endorsement fees (2026)

ItemFee
Endorsement application (eLicense)~$75
GBI + FBI fingerprinting (GAPS)~$44–55
Nursys electronic verification (if applicable)$30
Estimated total~$149–$160

Continuing education for renewal

Georgia RN licenses renew every two years. Renewal requires 30 contact hours of continuing education from approved providers. Georgia does not currently mandate specific topic areas within the 30 hours (verify current requirements at sos.ga.gov before renewal, as requirements may be updated by board rule). CE records must be retained for 4 years in case of audit.

Timeline expectations

Complete endorsement applications with Nursys electronic verification and cleared GBI/FBI background check typically process in 4–8 weeks. Paper verification from non-Nursys states adds 2–3 weeks. Georgia does not issue temporary permits for nurses pending endorsement — plan your application submission accordingly for your target start date.

What we see at Ava Health

Georgia is an active market in our nursing pipeline, particularly the Atlanta metro where WellStar, Emory, and Northside regularly post openings for ICU, OR, L&D, and emergency nursing. Rural Georgia — particularly the Augusta corridor and Southwest Georgia — offers higher sign-on bonuses and relocation packages to attract nurses to underserved critical access facilities. Georgia's compact membership makes it a low-friction destination for nurses already holding NLC licenses.
