CRNA Licensing in Florida 2026: FBON Process, NBCRNA, $200K+ Comp & Top Employers

Florida CRNAs earn $200-260K with strong demand across all major systems — Tampa General, NCH, AdventHealth, University of Miami Health, Memorial Healthcare South Broward, Mayo Clinic Florida, and Baptist Health South Florida all run large anesthesia teams that include CRNAs. Florida also grants autonomous anesthesia practice to CRNAs with 3,000 supervised hours, mirroring the broader ARNP autonomous practice rule but with anesthesia-specific scope.

This guide covers the FBON ARNP-CRNA endorsement, NBCRNA certification maintenance, autonomous anesthesia practice, DEA + Florida controlled substance prescribing, and the SW Florida anesthesia market.

Step 0: RN + NBCRNA prerequisites

Florida CRNA endorsement requires:

  1. An active Florida RN license OR an active NLC multi-state compact RN license
  2. An active NBCRNA certification — including current participation in the Continued Professional Certification (CPC) program (4-year cycle)
  3. Graduation from an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program (DNP or MSN-CRNA)

If you're an out-of-state CRNA looking to relocate to FL, start the FL RN endorsement in parallel with the ARNP-CRNA application — see our Florida RN License Endorsement Guide for the RN side.

FBON ARNP-CRNA endorsement process

  1. Apply at FBON MQA Online portal — $100 application + $5 unlicensed activity = $105 total
  2. Have NBCRNA send certification verification directly to FBON
  3. Live Scan fingerprinting (FDLE-approved vendor, $50-65, ORI EFL004505Z)
  4. Each prior CRNA-licensure state verifies directly to FBON
  5. Have your DNP or MSN-CRNA program send official transcripts directly
  6. FBON review: 8-12 weeks

Florida CRNA autonomous anesthesia practice

Florida grants autonomous anesthesia practice to CRNAs who meet a clinical-experience threshold. This is separate from the general ARNP autonomous practice — it's anesthesia-specific.

  • 3,000 hours of supervised CRNA practice within the past 5 years
  • 2 graduate-level pharmacology CE hours (overlaps with NBCRNA CPC requirements)
  • $100 AP-anesthesia registration fee
  • Practice scope includes pre-anesthesia eval, anesthesia delivery, post-anesthesia management — without a supervising anesthesiologist
  • Critical access hospitals and rural anesthesia practices most often staffed by autonomous CRNAs

DEA + Florida controlled substance

  • DEA registration: $888 for 3 years
  • Florida controlled substance prescriber number through FBON: free
  • CRNAs typically prescribe Schedule II (opioid analgesics) routinely in OR settings
  • 3 contact hours of safe prescribing CE per biennial cycle

Top Florida CRNA employers (2026)

  • NCH Healthcare System (Naples): Cath Lab anesthesia, OR (general + ortho + cardiac), pain management — ~$210-240K
  • Tampa General Hospital + USF Health: Level I trauma center, complex cardiac + transplant anesthesia, $220-260K range
  • AdventHealth Orlando: 1,300-bed flagship, 40+ ORs, large CRNA team
  • University of Miami Health (UM): academic, transplant + neuro anesthesia, $215-245K
  • Memorial Healthcare System (South Broward): 6 hospitals, autonomous CRNA-staffed surgery centers
  • Mayo Clinic Florida (Jacksonville): academic, complex anesthesia cases
  • Baptist Health South Florida (Miami-Dade): 11 hospitals, broad CRNA utilization
  • Lee Health (Fort Myers): SW Florida regional, 4 hospitals, OR + Cath Lab + obstetric anesthesia
  • Florida Hospital Tampa + AdventHealth Tampa: growing anesthesia footprint

Compensation

  • FL CRNA median (2026): $215K base, $230-260K total with call + bonus
  • Tampa metro premium: $5-15K above state median for cardiac + transplant cases
  • Naples / SW FL: at or slightly above state median, plus relocation packages of $7-15K
  • Rural FL (panhandle, north-central): $200-220K but autonomous practice opportunities
  • Critical access hospital premium: +$10-25K for autonomous-CRNA staffing models
  • Locum CRNA in FL: $180-250/hr depending on case mix

NBCRNA CPC program

  • 4-year continued certification cycle
  • 60 Class A CE credits (assessed) + 40 Class B credits + 4 core modules
  • Recertification exam every 8 years
  • Failure to maintain CPC = automatic FL license suspension

SW Florida market context

Naples/Fort Myers/Bonita Springs anesthesia demand is exceptionally strong because of the retiree population's surgical needs (joint replacement, cardiac, GI, ophth). NCH alone runs 25+ ORs. Lee Health adds 4 facilities with anesthesia coverage. NCH is currently hiring CRNAs — see our recent FL recruiting guide for the broader market.

Common timeline traps

  • NBCRNA CPC lapse. If your CPC certification expires while FBON is reviewing, you'll need to recertify before the license issues.
  • Anesthesia program transcript delays. Some DNP-CRNA programs have slower transcript processing. File the request immediately after submitting to FBON.
  • Live Scan timing. Same as ARNP general endorsement — prints expire in 30 days. Don't fingerprint until your packet is otherwise complete.

Bottom line

Florida CRNA endorsement is the same FBON ARNP track plus NBCRNA verification, takes 8-12 weeks, and unlocks a $200-260K compensation range with strong system demand and autonomous practice availability after 3,000 hours. SW Florida (Naples, Fort Myers) is one of the strongest local CRNA markets in the country.
