Pharmacist Jobs in Florida in 2026

Florida's combination of no state income tax, rapid population growth, and major health system expansion has made it one of the most active pharmacist hiring markets in the country. Hospital pharmacists in particular are in high demand across the state — especially in Southwest Florida, where growing hospital networks are expanding clinical pharmacy programs alongside new patient volume.

Florida Pharmacist Salary Overview

SettingAvg Annual Salary (FL)National Avg
Staff Pharmacist (hospital)$128,000–$148,000$125K–$145K
Clinical Pharmacist (specialty)$138,000–$158,000$135K–$155K
Staff Pharmacist (retail)$118,000–$138,000$120K–$140K
Pharmacy Director (hospital)$148,000–$185,000$148K–$185K
Ambulatory Care Pharmacist$122,000–$142,000$120K–$140K

Florida salaries land slightly below the national average for some roles — California and the Northeast pay more — but the no-state-income-tax benefit closes much of that gap on an effective take-home basis. A Florida hospital pharmacist earning $138,000 with $0 state income tax nets more than a comparable pharmacist in Illinois earning $148,000 with 4.95% state income tax.

Top Florida Healthcare Employers for Pharmacists

Southwest Florida

  • Naples-area hospital system (Collier County): Multiple clinical pharmacist positions across oncology, ED, ICU, and ambulatory settings. One of the most active clinical pharmacy hiring programs in the region. Multiple shift options; Florida Board of Pharmacy license required.
  • Lee Health (Fort Myers / Cape Coral): Lee County's dominant health system, operating four hospitals. Clinical pharmacy team has expanded alongside patient volume growth.
  • HCA Florida (multiple SW FL facilities): Englewood Community, Fawcett Memorial, Physicians Regional. Shared corporate pharmacy credentialing with system-wide transfer options.

Tampa Bay

  • Tampa General Hospital: Academic medical center affiliated with USF Health. Strong clinical pharmacy program with specialty rotations; PGY1/PGY2 residency programs.
  • AdventHealth Tampa/Carrollwood: Non-profit system with PSLF-eligible positions. Active oncology and transplant pharmacy programs.
  • Moffitt Cancer Center: NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. Oncology pharmacy positions among the most specialized in the state; BCOP credential valued.

South Florida (Miami / Broward / Palm Beach)

  • Jackson Health System (Miami): Large public hospital system; active clinical pharmacy positions with PSLF eligibility.
  • Memorial Healthcare System (Broward): PSLF-eligible; strong community health focus.
  • Cleveland Clinic Florida (Weston): Specialty positions across oncology, cardiology, neurology pharmacy programs.

Orlando / Central Florida

  • Orlando Health: Multi-hospital system; active pharmacist hiring across campuses including Bayfront Health.
  • AdventHealth (various FL campuses): Large non-profit network; PSLF-eligible; 3,000+ beds across Florida. Strong clinical pharmacy infrastructure.

Florida Board of Pharmacy License Requirements

Practicing as a pharmacist in Florida requires a Florida Board of Pharmacy (FBOP) license. For pharmacists licensed in other states:

License by Endorsement:

  1. Active pharmacist license in good standing in your home state (no discipline history)
  2. MPJE scores from another state acceptable within 2 years (Florida may require Florida MPJE if scores are older)
  3. Application to FBOP + $105 fee + fingerprints + official transcripts
  4. Processing time: 4–8 weeks for most straightforward endorsements

Compact status: Pharmacy does not yet have a multistate licensure compact equivalent to nursing's NLC. Each state requires its own application. Start the Florida endorsement process as soon as you accept an offer — most hospitals will allow a conditional start date with evidence of pending licensure.

Continuing education: Florida requires 30 hours of CE per 2-year renewal cycle, including specific requirements for HIV/AIDS (3 hrs) and Medication Error Prevention (2 hrs).

Hospital Pharmacy in Southwest Florida: The Opportunity

Southwest Florida has become a particularly strong pharmacist market for several reasons:

  • Population demographics: Naples and the Collier County area have among the highest median ages of any US metro — driving high medication complexity and clinical pharmacy demand across oncology, cardiology, and chronic disease management.
  • Hospital expansion: Health systems in the region have added beds, service lines, and clinical programs faster than the local pharmacist pipeline can supply. Multiple clinical pharmacist openings persist even as healthcare hiring has slowed nationally.
  • Florida tax advantage: No state income tax on pharmacist salaries of $130,000–$155,000 represents $6,500–$7,750 in annual savings compared to a state with a 5% income tax rate.
  • PSLF eligibility: Non-profit health systems in the region offer Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility — significant for pharmacists with $170,000+ in PharmD debt.

If you're a clinical pharmacist — particularly with experience in oncology, ED, ICU, or ambulatory care — and you're open to relocation, Southwest Florida is one of the more favorable markets in the country in 2026 for salary, lifestyle, and career growth combined.
