Mississippi CRNA License 2026: APRN Requirements, Practice Model, Salary
Mississippi CRNAs are licensed as APRNs by the Mississippi Board of Nursing. Mississippi is a reduced practice state — a collaborative agreement with a physician is required for controlled substance prescribing within anesthesia practice. Mississippi has NOT opted out of the federal Medicare CRNA supervision requirement. UMMC (Jackson) is the dominant academic employer; Singing River and Baptist Health systems anchor the Gulf Coast market. Mississippi has extensive HPSA designations throughout the Delta and rural interior, making it one of the strongest states for NHSC loan repayment eligibility.
Practice Model
- Collaborative agreement with physician required (particularly for controlled substance prescribing)
- Mississippi has NOT opted out of federal Medicare CRNA supervision requirement
- ACT model: University of Mississippi Medical Center (Jackson)
- CRNA-independent (with collaborative agreement): Singing River Health System, Baptist Health, Merit Health, rural CAH facilities
- Rural Mississippi Delta has among the most acute CRNA shortages in the Gulf South
Application Requirements
- Active Mississippi RN license (compact or MS-issued)
- Current NBCRNA certification
- Official nurse anesthesia program documentation
- Completed msbn.ms.gov application + $100 fee
- Criminal background check via Mississippi DPS
Processing Timeline
Mississippi Board of Nursing processes APRN applications in 6–10 weeks from complete submission. Temporary authorization is not routinely issued. Applications with complete documentation process at standard pace.
