Indiana has one of the lowest physician license application fees in the US at $250. The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA) manages physician licensing through the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana. Indiana is an IMLC member.

IMLC vs Standard IPLA

IMLC4–6 weeks$700 LOQ + $250 IN = $950
Standard IPLA8–10 weeks$250

Major health system credentialing (IN)

  • Indiana University Health (IU Health / Indianapolis): Largest IN health system; 120–150 days academic credentialing. IU Simon Cancer Center, Riley Children's, and Level I trauma generate year-round subspecialty demand.
  • Ascension St. Vincent (Indianapolis): 90–120 days community/regional credentialing across IN statewide network.
  • Deaconess Health System (Evansville / SW IN): 75–105 days regional. Evansville market serves SW Indiana and adjacent IL/KY.

  • Community Health Network (Indianapolis): 75–105 days large community system.
  • Franciscan Health (Indianapolis / Hammond): 75–105 days Catholic system; NW Indiana serves the Chicago-adjacent market.

What we see at Ava Health

Indiana is a cost-effective license to maintain — $250 initial and $100 renewal. Indianapolis is the primary market, dominated by IU Health and Ascension. Fort Wayne, Evansville, and South Bend are secondary markets with geographic premiums for primary care. The NW Indiana market (Hammond, Munster, Gary) overlaps with Chicago suburban demand. IMLC fast-track makes IN attractive for multi-state locum physicians who want to add a quick license.
