Georgia RN License by Endorsement 2026: GBON Process, NLC Compact, Timeline & Atlanta / Augusta Considerations
Georgia is one of the fastest-growing healthcare markets in the Southeast, anchored by Atlanta's three major systems (Emory, Piedmont, Wellstar) plus Augusta University Medical Center, Savannah's Memorial Health, and Macon's Atrium Health Navicent. The Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON) operates within the Georgia Secretary of State's office, and Georgia is an NLC member.
This guide covers the GBON endorsement process, NLC compact privilege, and the Atlanta / Augusta / Savannah academic credentialing landscape.
Step 0: Confirm NLC compact privilege
Georgia has been an NLC member since 2020. If you hold a multi-state compact license from another NLC state AND Georgia is not your primary state of residence, you have NLC privilege to practice in GA without filing an endorsement.
Standard GBON endorsement
- Apply through the Georgia Online Verification & Application System (sos.ga.gov)
- $75 endorsement fee
- Schedule fingerprinting via Cogent Live Scan ($55 in-state)
- Submit Nursys verification from every state where you've ever held a license
- Have nursing school send official transcripts directly to GBON
- Wait for GBON review (typically 6-10 weeks total)
Required documents
- GBON application + $75 fee
- Nursys verification from every prior state
- Official nursing school transcripts
- State + FBI fingerprint background check
- Verification of high school completion or equivalency (if not on transcript)

- Augusta University Medical Center: 60-90 days academic credentialing; the only academic medical center serving the eastern half of the state
- Memorial Health (Savannah): 45-60 days; coastal Georgia anchor
- Atrium Health Navicent (Macon): 45-60 days community
Renewal
- Biennial renewal (every 2 years, January 31 of even years)

- 30 hours of CE per renewal cycle (or evidence of practice + national certification)
- Mandatory: training in identifying victims of human trafficking (one-time)
What we see at Ava Health
Georgia is consistently in the top 5 states for nursing demand in our placement pipeline. Atlanta-metro pay has risen sharply since 2023, particularly for ICU, ER, L&D, and Cath Lab specialists. Average time from offer signed to first day of work is 7.8 weeks for endorsement candidates and immediate (under 7 days) for travel nurses with NLC privilege.
For RNs considering GA: Atlanta is one of the most competitive markets in the South, with strong pay across all major systems. Savannah and Augusta offer lower COL with reasonable academic-system pay. Northern Georgia (Wellstar, NGHS) is notably underserved and offers signing bonuses up to $20K for ICU and ER.
